Marsha Ambrosius date change

Marsha Ambrosius

WHO: David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts and

Grey Goose Rising Icons in partnership with the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival

WHAT: Marsha Ambrosius

WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. (was scheduled for Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m.)

The concert is included in the schedule of events for the 2012 Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival

WHERE: Ferguson Hall at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts

DETAILS: Already proven as a talented, sought after songwriter and revered platinum-selling artist, Marsha Ambrosius, a former member of the English soul/R&B duo Floetry, is meeting the next challenge in her already impressive musical career by reinventing herself as a solo artist with her J Records debut disc Late Nights & Early Mornings.

On Late Nights & Early Mornings, Ambrosius offers a candid glimpse of her life and perspective as a woman. Inspired by musical icons like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Prince, she concedes there is an overall male influence in her songwriting, such as the assertive sentiments heard on hits like “Say Yes.” She explains, “My pen and my point of view has a certain aggression to it because I’ve listened to a lot of male influenced music, which I think makes me one of the most outspoken writers out here. Sometimes as a woman you don’t wanna say what’s on your mind for fear of being judged. But why wouldn’t I say it like that if that’s how I felt?” Musical peers recruited to contribute to the project include Alicia Keys, a reunion with Dre and Vidal (producers of “Say Yes”), Just Blaze and Focus.

Regularly priced tickets start at $24.50 and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office or online at Tickets purchased for the Dec. 1 concert will be honored at the Jan. 12 show. (October 14, 2011 – New York, NY) – Bestselling authors Deepak Chopra and Leonard Mlodinow announce today the release of a landmark debate about the conflict between science and spirituality moderated by one of the world’s most famous journalists, Larry King.

The debate will be released on Deepak Chopra’s YouTube channel in four parts over the course of four days, available starting Tuesday, October 18th at 7pm EST. There will be a live chat following the final episode. Deepak Chopra’s YouTube channel is available at: Deepak Chopra Global YouTube as well as at his website

Two of the world’s foremost authorities on spirituality and science, Deepak Chopra and Leonard Mlodinow face off on some of the most fundamental questions that have intrigued humanity for hundreds of years, including how the universe began, where life comes from, and whether or not Darwinism fully explains evolution. Their YouTube debate series was inspired by their collaboration on War of the Worldviews: Science vs. Spirituality, a new book published by Harmony Books on October 4, 2011.

In the YouTube debate with Larry King, Mlodinow defends his controversial position that science does not -- and cannot -- conclude that God is an illusion. And Chopra explains that his definition of spirituality is separate from organized religion. Both agree that a literal view of the bible is an outmoded way of thinking. “This will go down as one of the more important books of this decade” said Larry King of War of the Worldviews.

“We are thrilled that Larry King, one of the legendary broadcasters of all time, has joined Leonard Mlodinow and me for a YouTube event that epitomizes the exciting new ways that authors and thinkers can connect with and engage with audiences around the world.”

The author of over sixty books and nineteen New York Times bestsellers, Deepak Chopra has been widely recognized for his innovative use of social and digital media to share his message. He has nearly 650,000 followers on Twitter (@DeepakChopra) and fifty thousand friends on Facebook. He writes over 200 blogs a year for outlets such as Huffington Post,, The Washington Post’s On Faith site,, and, among others. His own radio and podcast channel, Deepak Chopra Radio on Blogtalk Radio, will debut soon.

“I can't get my message out without adapting to the new landscape,” said Chopra, who tweets every day. "As a group, we writers won’t survive until we figure out how to place books in the global conversation, and YouTube represents one great way to accomplish this."

Leonard Mlodinow received his PhD in theoretical physics from the University of California at Berkeley and currently teaches at Caltech. His books include Feynman's Rainbow, Euclid's Window, and The Drunkard's Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives, which was a New York Times Bestseller, Editor's Choice, and 2008 Notable Book of the Year. Mlodinow is the writing collaborator of Stephen Hawking and co-author of the recently published The Grand Design, a book that argues that invoking God is not necessary to explain the origins of the universe.

Deepak Chopra, MD, FACP books have been translated into more than eighty languages. Dr. Chopra is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Adjunct Professor of Executive Programs at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and Senior Scientist with The Gallup Organization. TIME magazine has described Deepak Chopra as one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century and credits him as "the poet-prophet of alternative medicine." He also has a multi-media speaker series HomeBase, a physical and a virtual salon he created with ABC Carpet & Home CEO Paulette Cole. His new reality TV show "Dinner with Deepak" will air on the SyFy Channel.

The David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts is holding auditions by appointment for the Tony Award winning Boeing Boeing by Marc Camoletti, to be presented as part of the Straz Center Broadway Series. Producer: Straz Center
Dir: Greg Leaming, Associate Dir: Jonathan Van Dyke

Sunday, Sept. 25th & Monday, Oct. 3 11-7 callbacks on both days
David A. Straz, Jr Center For the Performing Arts/ Jaeb Theatre
Rehearsals Start Jan. 22nd
Show Runs: Feb. 24- May 6th

The debonair Bernard, an architect living in Paris, is juggling relationships with three vivacious flight attendants-- each one believes she is his only girl. All goes until his friend Robert arrives for a visit, and the airlines decide to change their schedules! Chaos and fun take off as Bernard’s clever plans unravel. The Boeing Boeing Tampa engagement is high-flying fun! Boeing Boeing recently enjoyed a successful Broadway revival with 279 performances.

ALL ROLES OPEN: All must have strong comedic skills.
Bernard: (Early 30’s-40’s) Handsome, great verbal skills, a playboy who begins the play unable to believe his good luck and ends it desperate to get out of this lifestyle. Possibly ready to admit he’s too old for all of this.

Robert: (Early 30’s-40’s) Bernard’s best friend and school chum. Fresh from the farm, innocent, naïve, and wide eyed. He is the opposite of Bernard – as insecure as Robert is assured, and as naïve as Robert is experienced. Together, he and Robert make up a classic comic duo – both sides of the male coin.

Gloria: (Mid 20’s-30’s) Strong, aggressive, very self assured. A combination of Midwestern homespun good spirits and the new, sexually liberated woman of the late 60s. Absolutely committed to her own perspective on the world.

Gabriella: (Mid 20’s-30’s) Passionate, sensual and extremely aggressive. A hot headed experienced woman, able to go from sex kitten to tigress in a moments notice. Very Italian, a la early 60s Italian cinema. Dialect skills a plus.

Gretchen: (Mid 20’s-30’s) Tall, leggy, German woman – a Wagnerian temptress who often struggles to fit the role of the innocent housewife. The most insecure of the three women, although her innate passionate response to the world makes her seem the strongest and the most terrifying. Dialect skills a plus.

Bertha: (40’s-50’s) A very efficient, extremely organized housekeeper who is quickly losing her grip over the household. She most definitely believes she is the star of this household, and has a very clear idea of what she is owed by all inhabiting it.
